What a year! 2017 has been a year of quiet consolidation within ESP, with many developments occurring behind the scenes. While the timescale isn’t set in stone yet, you can expect to see some changes in the near future.

For now, though, here’s an update about when we’re closed for Christmas and the New Year:

Friday the 22nd of December: CLOSED
Friday the 29th of December: CLOSED
Friday the 5th of January: OPEN CLOSED (Unavoidable cancellation due to illness.)
Friday the 12th of January: OPEN

So we are now closed for the festive season, but will open for the New Year on Friday the 12th of January.

Private training clients: you’ll be contacted shortly to confirm what we’ll do through this time as it’s busy for both of us. Training is still available through this period, but it just might require a little extra planning as certain dates will be unavailable.

For those of you who train on Wednesdays at PHDefence, you can click here to see details of their Christmas holidays.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and for those who don’t observe it we hope you have an absolutely wonderful Monday! Happy New Year to everyone, and see you on the other side!

Training Cancellation: 10.11.2017

Hi all,

Our apologies for any inconvenience but due to the hall being in use this week there will be no training on the 10th.

Training resumes as normal on the 17th!

Those of you who train at PHDefence on Wednesdays are unaffected as it’s a different venue.

See you next week!

Notice: Training cancelled today.

Due to unexpected circumstances today’s training has been cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience to any prospective newcomers who might have been coming and see you next week!

Notice: Session cancelled on 15.09.2017

Quick notice:

Next Friday (the 15th of September) we’ve cancelled our session to enable someone to have their wedding reception at the hall!

Our warm congratulations to the happy couple and our apologies to our training partners for any inconvenience caused.

For ESP practitioners, see you next Friday, the 22nd! For those who train with us at PHDefence as well, see you on Wednesday the 6th, as that class is unaffected. Private training clients: business as usual! No changes to report.

Notice: Private training availability back to normal!

Hi all,

After spending many hours under the bonnet, we’ve got the car to pass its MOT and so training availability is now reinstated. I’ll be getting in touch with all current PT clients momentarily, and for any beginners reading, be sure to check out this page for all the details on private training or this page for all the information about our regular public classes.

All the best,

Josh Nixon

Notice: Private training schedule temporarily subject to change!

Just a quick notice to all PT clients:

Due to car problems (namely, that my car has failed its MOT! Yay…) I may have to alter your training schedules slightly until all is resolved. If this is likely to affect you then I’ll have been in touch recently to keep you updated but I just thought I’d throw a notification out here for those who are less regular in their PT schedule.

At the moment we’ve worked on it quite extensively and had our work checked by a mechanic who reckons it’ll likely be fine now, so we’re just awaiting our retest! As soon as I know more, I’ll let you all know.

Training is still continuing as normal, but I just might need to cadge a lift here and there!

(Thanks, Dad!)

-Josh Nixon

Notice: Christmas Training Timetable

First of all let me wish you all – those who train with us and those who don’t who are reading this – a very merry Christmas (whatever your faith – I hope you have a really great Sunday if you don’t celebrate it) and a very happy New Year.

May the best of your yesterdays be the worst of your tomorrows.

Next week – Friday, the 23rd of December, 2016 – we are closed for the holidays.

The week after – Friday, the 30th of December, 2016 – we are closed for the holidays.

The week after that – Friday, the 6th of January, 2017 – we reopen to resume training.

See you on the other side! If anyone needs me, you know where I am. Feel free to email, comment or Facebook us following the links at the top.

Wishing you all health and happiness,

-Josh Nixon

Notification: Training Cancellation (11.11.2016)

Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know that due to an existing booking at the hall, we will not be training next Friday, the 11th of November. However, the next week we’re returning to training as usual (18.11.2016).

All the best! For existing members, homework will be set shortly in our online group…

See you on the other side,

-Josh Nixon

It’s Time to Get Writing Again

Elbow Strike Neon - LogoIt’s been a fair while since I actively wrote much on here. In fact, for quite some time all I’ve used this blog for is to let everyone know when a session here or there has had to be cancelled. That’s just not right at all.

It’s time for that to change.

Many of our posts have proved to be (sometimes surprisingly!) popular, gaining local interest as well as praise from instructors here in the UK and overseas. Early writing such as our reviews of Cutting Edge’s “Systema Basics” series and “The Pavement Arena” by the British Combat Association’s Geoff Thompson and Peter Consterdine were well-received and continue to be read often today. Writeups from training sessions, notably ones covering topics such as fighting on the ground, dealing with multiple attackers, striking from positions of disadvantage and just getting knackered with gruelling drills did well to attract attention from the world, and many readers found them interesting and informative. Posts such as this one from Red Nose Day last year did especially well to attract readers due to their technical information and poorly-scribbled diagrams!

However, as we’ve spent more and more time training I’ve spent less and less time writing. Like I said, it’s time for that to change. When wondering what I wanted to write, I realised that I wasn’t asking the right question, which is:

What do you want to read?

There are a few ideas brewing for getting back into the swing of things with our various online presences (some of which you’ve seen nothing of yet at all!) but more than anything I want to hear what you think. What do you want me to write about? What questions do you have that have gone unanswered? What have you been searching for but never really found anything covering the topic to your satisfaction? Let us know whichever way you like.

The next move is yours.

Session cancelled: 13.05.2016

Hi all,

I can’t believe it’s been a year since last time already! One of the regular (and thus unavoidable) prior bookings at our Endon venue occurs this week on Friday the 13th of May, and as such we’ll be unable to train that day as both rooms are in use all day.

We’re not training on 13.05.2016.

Training resumes next week on Friday the 20th of May!

See you next week!

All the best,

Josh Nixon
